The Adelaide Lightning are proud to announce that silver medallist Ashlee Strawbridge has signed for the 2025/26 season.

The forward currently plays for the West Adelaide Bearcats in the NBL1 Central, with an average of 10.54 points, 2.69 assists, 4.38 rebounds and 42.98 field goals.

“I’m so excited to play here at home for the Adelaide Lightning and be a part of continuing the club’s incredible, championship-winning legacy.” Strawbridge said.

Hailing from Ashburton, New Zealand Strawbridge rose through the ranks to take on an international career, playing at the College of Southern Idaho and New Mexico State in the United States.

In 2019, Strawbridge was a part of the New Zealand women’s Under 18 team who brought home silver at the FIBA Under 18 3×3 World Cup in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. She also played alongside fellow Lightning signings Sharne Robati and Ella Tofaeono at the Trans-Tasman Throwdown.

“It was a huge honour representing New Zealand and playing alongside the girls. I’m excited to bring that energy into the team here in Adelaide.”

In addition to her playing commitments, Strawbridge also coaches the Bearcats junior girls’ program, committed to supporting the next generation of basketball players.

“I love seeing the energy and excitement of the girls at training and on the court. I find it also makes me a better player, being able to communicate effectively, dig deep and work together as a team. I’m proud to be supporting the next generation of girls playing basketball.”

Head Coach of the Adelaide Lightning Kerryn Mitchell said: “Ash is what I would describe as a superstar human and athlete. She’s made her mark playing for the West Adelaide Bearcats in NBL1 Central the past two seasons and also coaches in the Bearcats junior girls’ program.  Ash is an amazing role model for the next generation!”

“Ash is the type of player who makes her teammates better. I’m excited to see her really push everyone at training and be a major contributor to creating a strong and thriving culture at the Lightning.”

“Whether she’s on the court for 2 minutes or 20 minutes, Ash brings the same good energy, good vibes and focuses on playing her role for the team.”
