Perth re-sign young duo for 2025/26 season

The Perth Lynx have re-signed two key pieces with the recent announcements of Steph Gorman and Kiara Waite for the coming WNBL 2025/26 season.

The duo both played for the Lynx last season, being core contributors to their Semi-Finals finish against the Townsville Fire.

Gorman is a defensive-weapon guard returning to the Lynx for a third season, averaging a career-high in every statistical category. Winning the 2023 NBL1 West Defensive Player of the Year and Finals MVP, Gorman has proven on the highest levels to be a two-way threat.

A development player in the 2023/24 season, Gorman was elevated to a full contract last season with Head Coach Ryan Petrik saying the sharpshooting guard is set to be a key piece for the Lynx’s offence.

“Steph is undeniably a key component of our team,” he said.

“Her defensive skills are unbeatable, whilst she continues to act as an asset no matter where she is on the court, so we are thrilled to have her as a part of the group for another season.”

Kiara Waite, NBL1 West star and teammate of Gorman, will also return for the Lynx this season. Waite made her debut at 17 with the 6’3” centre playing 12 games for the Lynx.

Averaging 6.1 minutes per game and a season-high of nine points against the Townsville Fire last season, the now 18-year-old will be ready to take another leap this season under the 2022 Coach of the Year.

“Kiara’s been someone we’d kept tabs on for a while, and it was great to see her step up to the WNBL level last season,” Petrik said.

“Every time she hit the court last season we were impressed – particularly given just how young she was at the time. We’re looking forward to seeing her game continue to grow and evolve in 2025-26.”
