Sydney Flames sign star American guard

June 13, 2025 | WNBL news

Sydney Flames have signed their first import, American Grace Berger, for the upcoming WNBL 2025/26 season.

Set to lead the Flames’ offence, the 6’0” guard will set the tone for Guy Molloy’s offence through her tempo control and elite shot-making when under pressure.

“Coming in as the point guard, I know it’s important for me to be vocal and that extension of the coach on the court,” Berger told the Flames.

“[Further to that] plenty of WNBA players whom I’m familiar with have used the WNBL to catapult their careers, which combined with the great development system that the Flames have in place, feels like the perfect place for me and my teammates to take our games to the next level and become the best players we can be.”

Echoing the sentiment, Molloy added that Berger’s work rate and attitude on and off the court are the hallmarks of a good leader.

“Her work rate and attitude are incredible, while also being someone who can create her own shot and handle the ball – not to mention having a reputation as a mid-range master, which is a tool that not many players have in today’s modern game.

“Everyone I’ve spoken to about her says she’s also an amazing teammate and willing to do whatever is needed for success, which aligns perfectly with our Flames ethos.

“All in all, I know she’s someone all the Flames fans will love and is going to help us to get to where we want to be as a team and club.”

The culture the Flames have created led Berger to the program, after she consulted her friend and former Sydney star, Celeste Taylor on her experience down under.

With the confidence she will play in a competitive environment while improving her game, the move to the Flames was a no-brainer choice for the WNBA talent.

Berger spent five years in college playing for the Indiana Hoosiers, where she averaged 12.4 points per game across 148 career games. She was then drafted by the WNBA’s Indiana Fever, where she played 48 games across two seasons.

Between WNBA seasons, she has played in Spain and Turkey, playing alongside UC Capitals signing Zitina Aokuso last season with Ormanspor.

She will now join the Flames’ core of Emma Clarke, Lauren Nicholson, Carla Pitman, Shaneice Swain and Agnes Emma-Nnopu.
