Miela Sowah (née Goodchild) will make her return to the Townsville Fire for the upcoming WNBL 2025/26 season.

After a career-best season with the Perth Lynx, Sowah will return to the club where she first started her WNBL journey. Sowah made her debut as a development player with the Fire, playing two games during the 2017/18 Championship season.

She went on to have a stellar collegiate career with Duke, breaking school records and playing 93 games for the program.

After college, the Queensland junior was signed by the Melbourne Boomers back in 2022, followed by two seasons with the Perth Lynx. Last season, Sowah had a career campaign, being named to the All-WBL Second Team after averaging 15 points per game and being a critical piece in Perth's 16-5 record.

Perth's season ended prematurely after falling to the lower-seeded Fire in the WNBL Semi-Finals last season. After coaching against her, the reigning Coach of the Year Shannon Seebohm ironically now bring Sowah back to her home state, explaining that he cannot wait to see Sowah in Queensland.

"We're ecstatic to welcome Miela back to Townsville," he said.

"She provides us with a scoring boost, and we believe she's only just scratching the surface of her potential. We're excited to work with her and be part of the next stage of her basketball journey."

Sowah will fit Townsville's proven core perfectly, as an unconscious shooter and elite scorer both on and off the ball. She's been honing her scoring capabilities in the NBL1 North for the Brisbane Capitals, where she is currently averaging 37 points per game.

Sowah joins the Grand Finalists as their seventh contracted player, alongside Lauren Cox, Abbey Ellis, Alex Fowler, Alicia Froling, Saffron Shiels and Courtney Woods.
