Townsville’s uniquely strong position in free agency

June 3, 2025 | WNBL news

The Townsville Fire are in a uniquely strong position heading into the 2025/26 WNBL free agency period.

With the most retained players out of any club (six), head coach Shannon Seebohm is focusing on adding to his proven core and building the club’s success.

The Fire are proven contenders, having made three Grand Finals in the past five seasons, losing in 2022, winning in 2023 and falling short to Bendigo in 2025.

Seebohm isn’t looking to reinvent the wheel, only retool his current core and find the perfect pieces for his system.

“We’re in a strong position heading into free agency, having retained six core players from last season’s team,” he said on the Fire’s social media.

“Our focus now is on finding the right pieces to complement that group. Players who align with the way we want to play, fit our culture, and add to the depth and versatility of our roster.

I’m really excited to get started and build this next version of the fire.”

With a current core of Lauren Cox, Abbey Ellis, Alex Fowler, Alicia Froling, Saffron Shiels, and Courtney Woods, who will Townsville look to add?
