Alex Ciabattoni re-signs with Lynx

Perth Lynx is excited to announce the re-signing of Alex Ciabattoni, with the guard signing a one-year deal to remain at the club throughout the 2025-26 season.
Ciabattoni’s career is one of perseverance and crossing multiple state and international borders. After beginning her NBL1 career in 2010 with the Southern Tigers, she played a two-year stint with the Newman Jets from 2012-14 at the US college Newman University, in Witchita, Kansas, where she secured the Heartland Conference Player of the Year.
Ciabattoni returned to Australia – specifically to her hometown of Adelaide – to join the WNBL in 2015. In her debut season in Australia’s premier women’s basketball league with the Adelaide Lightning, Ciabattoni was awarded the WNBL Rookie of the Year (2016), cementing herself as a player with key defensive skills and an impressive ability to perform under pressure.
After a second WNBL season with Adelaide, Ciabattoni received an offer to cross the Nullarbor and sign with the Perth Lynx for the 2017-18 season. From here, she would spread her wings even further, playing two seasons in Italy across Reyer Venezia, Ponzano Basket Veneto and Treofan Battipaglia.
COVID hit and Ciabattoni returned to Australia and the Lynx for the 2020 hub season, where she has stayed ever since, bar taking maternity leave to have her son, EJ, in January 2023.
In her 2024-25 season, Ciabattoni made a huge impact on the game, averaging 6.8 points, 3 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game. However, arguably her – and the Lynx’s – most memorable moment of the season in her side’s final regular season game against Townsville Fire, where Ciabattoni nailed a three with seconds remaining on the clock, to give her team the home court advantage in the upcoming best-of-three semi final series – also against the Fire.
Speaking on her re-signing, Ciabattoni said she was thrilled to hit the court with the Lynx for another year.
“Perth has become home for me, so having the opportunity to return and play alongside this incredible group of women is something I’m really grateful for. There’s something special about this team, and I’m excited to keep pushing towards our goal of winning a Championship in the 2025-26 season.”
Lynx head coach, Ryan Petrik, also welcomed the news.
“Alex is an ever-reliable leader in our team. Her guidance, talent and work ethic set an excellent standard for the rest of the players, which is a truly invaluable asset for the group. We’re all super pleased to have her position locked-in for another year.”
Ciabattoni is the latest Lynx player to announce their re-commitment to the club for at least another season, joining Steph Gorman, Anneli Maley and Kiara Waite on the roster for season 2025-26.
