After a strong level of interest from the state’s top up-and-coming basketballers, Sydney is excited to announce that it will host two trials for the 2025 Harvey Norman Future Flames program.

After a successful inaugural season in 2024, the program – run in conjunction with Basketball NSW – is set to reach new heights this year with close to 40 athletes registering an interest.

These athletes will attend Hoops Capital East from 10-12pm, on Thursday, June 12 and 19 for trials, before the squad will be cut.

Future Flames program director Renae Garlepp is excited to build on last year’s successful first year, which saw Sydney take the squad to HoopsFest in Perth.

“The level of interest has been fantastic – it’s really clear that there’s a hunger out there to grow, compete, and take that next step,” said Flame #149 Garlepp.

“We’re really excited for the two-week trial phase, especially to see so many new faces, as well as a strong group returning from last year.

“These trials give us a great window to assess where everyone’s at and to watch them go head-to-head in a competitive environment.

“It’s a valuable chance to see how they stack up, not just in terms of talent, but in how they train, compete, and connect with others.”

Following these two trial dates, Garlepp will reduce her squad for the 10-week program, which will run from July 10 and September 11.
