UC Capitals continue reload, add tough 3-and-D guard Isabella Brancatisano for WNBL26

July 18, 2025 | UC Capitals news

The UC Capitals are excited to announce the signing of Isabella Brancatisano ahead of the upcoming 2025/26 WNBL season.

Brancatisano joins the Caps after spending last year in Sydney with the Flames, where she played a crucial role in helping the team make the finals. She says she is looking forward to continuing her momentum in the league.

“I’m super excited to be back for another season in the WNBL. Gorrie has put together a great team with a fun style of play which I’m looking forward to being a part of.

“I hope to bring energy and a defensive spark to the team. I’m ready to play whatever role Gorrie sees fit for me across the season,” she said.

Caps Head Coach Paul Goriss said Brancatisano’s relentless defensive presence made her an obvious addition to the Caps lineup.

“We needed to add defensive and point guard depth to our team, and there was none better last season at defending in the full court than Isa. Her peskiness, ball pressure, and ability to harass people like Jade [Melbourne] was second to none,” he said.

Beyond her defensive tenacity, Goriss said Brancatisano brings a level of experience and intensity that makes her an ideal fit for the team’s needs heading into the new season.

“While last year was only her first season in the WNBL, she has played basketball a long time and fulfils a role that we desperately needed to fill. She plays hard, she’s tough and is one of the fittest players in the WNBL.”

Caps fans will most recently remember Brancatisano from her Round 15 WNBL performance in February where she recorded a career-high 26-point effort against the Caps in Canberra.

Tensions were high that game as both teams fought for a place in finals and Brancatisano remembers how passionate the fans were in support of their home team.

“Hopefully the fans don’t hold that game against me! I remember it being a wild atmosphere and it was awesome to play in front of even as an away team.

“The Canberra crowd are super loud and passionate in support of their players, so I’m excited to be on their team this year,” she said.

Hitting 8-from-12 three-pointers in that game, Goriss knows she’s capable of raining threes at AIS Arena and is glad there will be no game-planning against her this season.

“Better to have her on our team rather than deal with her on the opposition this season. I have earmarked a kill spot for her and told her she better make every shot from there,” he said.

Brancatisano is currently playing in the NBL1 South for the Mount Gambier Pioneers, averaging 14 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists per game.

Her experience at NBL1 will come in handy when she gets to Canberra, having previously played in the South division with Jade Melbourne, Zitina Aokuso, and Sara Blicavs.

“I’m excited that I get the opportunity to play with some of my friends again at this level. I believe Gorrie has built a very balanced roster and has cleverly put together a group of athletes who already have some past chemistry,” Brancatisano said.

The Caps have now locked in 10 players all with WNBL experience to our 2025/26 squad. Brancatisano joins Jade Melbourne, Nyadiew Puoch, Monique Bobongie, Jayda Clark, Nicole Munger, Zitina Aokuso, Sara Blicavs, Kadi Sissoko, and Teige Morrell.
