Nicole Munger to continue with the UC Capitals

The UC Capitals are thrilled to announce Nicole Munger will remain in Canberra after re-signing with the club ahead of the 2025/26 WNBL season.

Since joining the Caps in 2022, Munger has proven to be a cornerstone of the program and says she’s filled with excitement heading into her fourth season as a Capital.

“Canberra is a really special place to me and I’m keen to get back in town with Goz and the gang and get to work.

“I’m beyond thankful that the Caps are having me back and I’m excited to continue to build on the momentum we had at the back end of last season,” she said.

The American import was voted the Caps Players’ Player in two out of three of her previous seasons in Canberra, and her influence on the team beyond the stat sheet is not lost on Caps Head Coach Paul Goriss.

“Munger is crucial to our team and organisation, she is the ultimate professional on and off court. Her work ethic and preparation are up there with some of the greatest players I had have the pleasure of coaching,” Goriss said.

“Her hunger to improve her game, along with her humility, makes her the perfect fit for us. Our fans love her energy and passion, and she has always been grateful for the opportunity to play WNBL,” he said.

With only two import positions available on each WNBL team, it can make for a competitive roster spot, but Goriss says Munger has more than earned her place with the Caps.

“Her effort, tenacity, and team first approach make her a valuable member of our team, and she leads the way with what it is to be a pro and the work required for it.

“We know how committed Munger is to winning and contributing to a great culture on and off the court. Her intangibles and the way she embraces her role outweigh the need for us to go searching for another import,” Goriss said.

With a mix of new and familiar faces on the Caps growing roster, Munger says fans can expect to see an exciting blend of experience, energy, and fresh perspective.

“The returning players already know what we’re building here and will help set the tone, while the new additions will bring their own strengths that can elevate the group even more.

“I expect us to be competitive, connected, and really tough to play against, especially as we continue to build chemistry and buy into the same goals,” she said.

Looking ahead to her own performance next season, Munger is focused on bringing leadership, consistency, and a real competitiveness in everything the Caps do.

“I care deeply about this team and this club, and I want to help set the standard every day, on and off the court.

“More than anything, I want to be part of the team that brings home the 10th championship. To help take the club from where it’s been to where it’s going – that’s something I care deeply about,” Munger said.

The 2024/25 season brought a series of new challenges for Munger. Early on she battled with the lingering effects of long COVID, before celebrating her 50th WNBL appearance mid-season.

The passionate support from Caps fans both at games and online hasn’t gone unnoticed by Munger, who says the support means a lot to her.

“To feel that kind of support from the Caps fans is incredibly special and something I don’t take for granted. This community has stuck with me through the highs and lows, and knowing they wanted me back really reinforced how lucky I am to be a part of this club.

“This year, I want to give back to the fans and the community who’ve supported us so fiercely. They show up for us, so I’m committed to showing up for them by playing hard, representing the club with pride, and doing everything I can to help bring success back to Canberra,” Munger said.

Away from the Caps, Munger has continued to make Australia home, playing with the Newcastle Falcons in the NBL1 East competition.

Munger has established herself as one of the top players in the league, having earned back-to-back conference MVP awards, and is currently making a strong case for the threepeat.

She is averaging a double-double of 20 points, 14 rebounds, and 6 assists per game as the Falcons look to defend their 2024 Championship.

Munger joins Jade Melbourne, Nyadiew Puoch, Monique Bobongie, Jayda Clark, Zitina Aokuso, Sara Blicavs, and Kadi Sissoko on the Caps 2025/26 roster.
