The UC Capitals and Accelerate Physiotherapy will continue their partnership through the 2025/26 WNBL season, with Accelerate Physiotherapy Director Will Maher being appointed as the Capitals’ Head of High-Performance.

Maher has decades of experience with elite athletes both in the grassroots and professional level, most notably Canberra’s own Nick Kyrgios, who he has worked with for over a decade. His passion for sport is unmatched and he’s looking to further elevate the Capitals’ high-performance program, which set the benchmark for athlete well-being and performance for the league last season.

“We are thrilled to have Will lead our High-Performance team. His vast experience working with world-class athletes will help us to continue to set the bar for athlete care in the country,” said UC Capitals Executive General Manager Christy Collier Hill.

“Will and the team at Accelerate Physiotherapy will allow all our athletes the ability to perform at their peak throughout the season.”

The partnership focuses on minimising injury risk and maximising time on-court and aims to deliver the most comprehensive high-performance program in the WNBL. With Olympians and rising stars on the roster, Maher will focus on providing world-class care to some of the best athletes in Australian sport.

“The UC Capitals feature some of the best athletes in this country and they need a high-performance program that matches the caliber of athletes they are,” he said.

“There are still some gaps in the way resources are allocated to women’s sport, and my goal is to provide these basketball players the same level of world class care and support that their male counterparts get.”

The Caps and Accelerate Physiotherapy’s partnership include a dedicated performance team that specialises in every aspect of athlete care on and off the court, access to state of the art facilities for training and recover, and a team of performance partners that will focuses on the players’ holistic well-being.

“Together, I believe our partnership with Will and Accelerate will give us the necessary edge that will help our athletes be the best versions of themselves as we strive to win our 10th championship,” said Collier-Hill.
