UC Capitals boosts frontcourt with NBL1 MVP Teige Morrell

The UC Capitals have made another addition to the team’s reshaped 25/26 WNBL roster, adding forward/centre Teige Morrell.
The 1.91m veteran is making the cross-country move to Canberra after spending the past three seasons with the Perth Lynx, where she played a key role in the team’s frontcourt rotation.
“I’m excited join the Capitals and I’m looking forward to playing under coach Paul Goriss and with the exciting and talented roster that team has assembled,” said Morrell.
“When Goz sought me out during the free agency period, we connected well, and I was impressed with the vision he had and the professionalism of everyone I spoke to around the team.”
Ahead of free agency, UC Capitals Head Coach Paul Goriss said that the frontcourt was going to be a priority. The team now adds Morrell’s toughness and physicality to a revamped Caps frontcourt rotation that includes Zitina Aokuso, Sara Blicavs, and Kadi Sissoko.
“Adding depth to our roster, particularly in the frontcourt, was a key focus for us this offseason. Teige fits exactly what we were looking for and her ability to provide minutes at both the 4 and 5 spots will be a huge asset for us,” he said.
“She is very aware of her strengths and does a great job of getting to her spots. Her maturity and experience will help round out a formidable frontcourt with the players we have already signed.”

Morrell, who grew up in New Mexico and had a stellar four-year college career with the University of Nevada Wolfpack, has carved out a dominant pro career at the NBL1 level in Australia since moving to the country in 2019.
She is a 2021 NBL1 Central champion, a two-time NBL1 MVP – the only player to have won the MVP in two different conferences (West and Central) – and a four-time All-NBL1 First Team conference selection. She is currently averaging 21 points, 14 rebounds and 3 assists per game for the Lakeside Lightning in the current 2025 NBL1 West season.
“I’m someone that plays with a lot of heart, hustle and grit, and I’m always willing to do whatever it takes to help the team win. But I also want to keep on improving and expanding my game and I’m looking forward to working with the coaches in that aspect too,” she said.
“I think fans should be hyped for the season. I’m looking forward to personally getting to know Canberra and connecting with the community, and I’m excited to chase that championship together.”
